The Brno Lab of Intergroup Processes (BLIP) is a research group at the Institute of Psychology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (PSÚ AV ČR), within the Department of Personality and Social Psychology. We focus on the psychology of intergroup relations, aiming to understand and improve relationships between social groups.
Our research addresses topics such as prejudice, intergroup contact, social norms, communication, and the role of digital environments in shaping social relations. We combine rigorous methodology with socially relevant questions, often working in international collaborations across Europe.
Ph.D. students are an integral part of BLIP and are treated as full members of the research team. Together with their supervisors, they actively:
design and conduct research studies
analyze data and publish scientific articles
present their work at international conferences
collaborate within interdisciplinary and international projects
We emphasize independence, critical thinking, and long-term development of research skills.
At BLIP, doctoral students can work on topics such as:
Intergroup relations and prejudice
Intergroup contact and social cohesion
Minority–majority and inter-minority relations
Reconciliation in post-conflict societies
Social norms and communication
Digital technologies and intergroup processes
Advanced methods (psychometrics, experiments, reaction time measures)
Close supervision by experienced researchers
Participation in international research networks
Opportunities for publications and conference presentations
Training in advanced methods and open science
A collaborative and supportive research environment
Opportunities for research stays abroad
